Lumos & Associates is seeking an experienced Northern California Civil Engineering Practice Leader to lead and grow our Civil Engineering practice in the greater Sacramento region from our Roseville, California office.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated civil engineering leader to help expand Lumos’ presence in Northern California, develop lasting client relationships, lead meaningful infrastructure projects, and mentor a talented, multidisciplinary team.

This role is ideal for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong relationship-building skills, and proven experience leading civil engineering teams and projects in a consulting environment.

What you’d do

As the Northern California Civil Engineering Practice Leader, you will play a key role in leading and expanding Lumos’ Engineering Division in the Sacramento region. You will be responsible for developing business opportunities, managing client relationships, overseeing project delivery, and supporting the growth and development of your team. This position provides an opportunity to build and grow a practice within your discipline and geographic market , while also broadening your leadership reach by supporting and mentoring people across other disciplines within the local engineering team, with the resources and support of the broader company behind you.

  • Experience with municipal infrastructure, public works, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, or site development projects preferred.
  • Experience presenting projects to local agencies, boards, councils, or review committees preferred.

  • 10+ years of proven experience in civil engineering consulting, project management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing civil engineering projects and client relationships.
  • Prior experience managing, supervising, training, coaching, developing, and motivating engineering teams.
  • Proven success developing new business opportunities and supporting client proposals.
  • Strong understanding of consulting operations, project delivery, client service, backlog management, and staffing needs.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Lead business development efforts and promote repeat and referral business with existing and prospective clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, allied professionals, and subconsultants.
  • Participate in networking events, business development meetings, and industry-related opportunities.
  • Review, provide guidance on, and direct responses to SOQs, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Manage client projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality service and successful project outcomes.
